Research Interests
The Rowan Lab is interested in cellular and molecular mechanisms in neurons which allow these incredibly diverse cells to perform the wide variety of signaling functions necessary for learning and cognition in mammals. We employ a multifaceted approach, including 2 photon optical imaging, molecular, electrophysiological, optogenetic, surgical, and modeling techniques.
Understanding how dendritic and axonal specializations allow for proper circuit function and cognition

Investigating selective vulnerability of specific neuron types in early stage Alzheimer's disease

Developing novel approaches to therapeutically target and study specific neuron types in vivo

Using deep learning to advance understanding of cortical circuits in health and disease
